Dublin Landmarks

The city of Dublin has a rich history and visitors can still see traces of its past while walking around today’s modern streetscape. On our way to visit Trinity, we pass by what used to be the medieval stronghold known as Dublin Castle where Irish royalty once resided until 1922 when Ireland became an independent nation without a king or queen on the throne! History of Dublin

Dublin has a long history stretching back over 1000 years. It was first established by Vikings who were led by the pirate, King Olaf of Norway in AD 840 under the name Dyflin. The Gaelic Irish began to settle on tiny islands within Dublin Bay from around 850AD and Viking raids grew more frequent until they finally settled along with the Gaels during the ninth century when all three groups lived side-by-side for several decades in peace. This period is known as ‘the dark times’ because there are few historical records that remain but it seems that many early Christian churches existed in Dublin at this time which suggests some stability among these communities despite their differences!
